Cincinnati weekend scene

Weekend itinerary

A Cincinnati weekend from Findlay Market to the Ohio River.

Arrive for an OTR dinner Friday, follow Findlay Market and the streetcar to the riverfront Saturday, then choose the zoo, Union Terminal, or a game for Sunday.

By Cal Mercer — a Second Star Guide itinerary

Cincinnati’s first-day route runs from OTR’s market and brick streets to downtown stadiums, parks, bridges, and the Ohio River.

Best length

2 nights

Two nights cover the market-to-riverfront route plus one major museum, zoo, sports, or northern Kentucky choice.

Stay

Residence Inn by Marriott Cincinnati Downtown/The Phelps

An all-suite hotel beside Lytle Park in eastern downtown, convenient for the riverfront, Great American Ball…

Main activity

Findlay Market, Over-the-Rhine, and the riverfront

Findlay Market, Washington Park, the streetcar, Smale Park, and the Roebling Bridge form the city’s clearest first-day sequence.

Pace

Neighborhood-and-river weekend

Best for travelers who want a walkable city core plus one larger attraction outside it.

Cincinnati timing at a glance

One first-timer route, with the car parked until Sunday

Friday evening

4:00 check in downtown; 6:30 reserve Sotto; around 8:15 walk to Smale Park and the Roebling Bridge lights.

Saturday market to river

8:30 breakfast in OTR; 10:00 Findlay Market; 12:30 Washington Park and lunch; 2:30 streetcar south; 3:30 Smale Park and the bridge; 7:00 reserve Boca.

Sunday institution

Start by 10:30 and choose Cincinnati Zoo or Union Terminal for a three-to-five-hour visit. On game weekends, replace that block and reach the stadium district about 90 minutes before the event.

Friday

Check in near dinner, then walk OTR or the riverfront.

Use Friday for one neighborhood: an OTR table and Washington Park, or a downtown meal followed by Smale Park and the bridge lights.

4:00 PM

Saturday

Follow Findlay Market and OTR south to the Ohio River.

Browse the market, walk the Italianate blocks around Washington Park, ride the streetcar downtown, and finish at Smale Park or across the Roebling Bridge.

4:30 PM

Afternoon

Cross the Roebling Bridge or pause beside the river.

Smale Park’s gardens, fountains, swings, and playgrounds offer a slower afternoon; the pedestrian bridge adds Covington and a clear skyline view.

Sunday

Choose one Cincinnati institution before leaving.

Give Sunday to Cincinnati Zoo, the museums inside Union Terminal, a Reds or Bengals event, or a short Newport and Covington riverfront loop.
